Information reaching Abia Facts newspaper revealed that a Judge, who is a member of the Justice R.C. Agbo Court of Appeal panel sitting over appeals on the tax forgery suit against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Owerri, is alleged to engaged in an offshore deal to receive 10 million US Dollars to deliver a favourable judgment to the governor.
The Justice Agbo led five- man panel of the Court of Appeal hearing Appeal No CA/ OW/ 190/2016; Sir Friday Nwosu vs PDP and 3 others filed by Ikpeazu and Sir Friday Nwosu over the July 8 judgment of the Federal High Court, Owerri, had on 22/9/2016 adjourned to 20/10/2016 and 21/10/2016 for hearing and judgment, respectively. This was contrary to the earlier fixing of the case for hearing on 22/9/2016 and judgment on 23/9/2016.
While adjourning the matter on 22/9/2016 at the Court of Appeal, Owerri, Justice Agbo had announced that a member of the five man panel would be travelling to the USA on 3rd October to return to Nigeria on 17th October while the panel will resume sitting on 20th October.
It alleged that the Judge (name withheld) who is now in USA, also sat on the Bayelsa state governorship election appeal panel between Governor Seriake Dickson and Chief Timipre Sylva and travelled to the United States of America on 3rd October, 2016, where he is set to collect a 10 million US Dollars bribe for the Justice Agbo panel.
Sources added that the Judge had travelled almost the same time with Ikpeazu while some ranking PDP members from the state joined later. It was also alleged that former Abia state governor, Theodore Orji has coincidentally joined the small group to perfect their bribery/corruption off shore deal in the USA from where they will move to Dubai to keep away prying eyes.
The group also comprise another serving Senator, an influential lawyer who is a renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) from the South West who is said to be mopping up about N15 Billion to finish the cases against Ikpeazu at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
The said Senior Lawyer has threatened that no ‘Jupiter’, not even the dreaded DSS and EFCC, can stop him from bulldozing his way to ensure that Ikpeazu gets a favourable judgment from the Appeal and Supreme courts.
According to an Abia PDP chieftain from Isiala Ngwa South local government area who declined to have his name on print, said, “It is now common wisdom in Abia State that the state funds have as a tradition of being shared among Judges, big Lawyers who double as corruption consultants and the Governors and their families in the past 17 years plus. God help Abia State, God’s own State indeed. The DSS should extend their investigation to the Judges who are sitting or have sat over the tax suit against Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Workers in Abia state are being owed over six months salaries, road projects have stopped. The anti corruption agencies should step in and probe the Judges because Abia funds are being used to bribe them.”
