The National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Ike Oye, said yesterday that the party is awaiting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to swear in its candidate, Dr. Alex Otti as the new Abia State governor.
INEC was last Thursday ordered by the Appeal Court which sat in Owerri, Imo State to swear in Dr. Otti.
He spoke to Daily Sun in Umuahia where he gave the reason Otti was yet to be sworn in after the verdict of the Appeal Court which gave the order that he should be sworn in within a specific time frame.
Oye said as a law-abiding party that believes in the Rule of Law, that the Appeal Court made it clear that Otti won the election and so, INEC should make arrangement to swear him as the governor.
“That was the ruling of the Court of Appeal that sat in Owerri. When he will be sworn in is dependent on INEC,”  Oye said. According to him, “the court said INEC should make arrangement, it did not say that APGA should make arrangement, the directive is very clear. If they had said that APGA should do that, we would have sworn him in the same night,” he explained.
He said that his party is  following directive, “waiting for INEC to give us the green light for him to be sworn in. The responsibility falls on INEC for him to be sworn in. That was the ruling of the Appeal Court, he explained further.
He stated that since the judgment was given, Abia people have been up-beat, adding that  they do not expect anything less and as far as the 2015 governorship election was concerned.
Meanwhile, the state police command has warned those  demonstrating  against the Appeal Court judgment which sacked Ikpeazu to desist from disturbing the peace, or face the wrath of the law.
But reacting, Ikpeazu said he has the right to remain in office pending the outcome of the suit he filed at the apex court to challenge the annulment of his victory.
Ikpeazu, in a letter his lawyer wrote to INEC, wondered why the court overruled the tribunal, which upheld his election. His lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), had in the letter said: “Our client was elected by the electorate as the governor of Abia State in the governorship election held on April 11 and 25, 2015.
“Upon his return as the governor by INEC, Mr. Alex Otti and his political party, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) challenged his return at the governorship election tribunal sitting at Umuahia, and which tribunal dismissed their petition on November 3, 2015. Being dissatisfied with the judgment of the tribunal, the petitioners appealed to the Court of Appeal, and by the judgement of the Court of Appeal delivered on December 31, 2015, the court allowed the appeal and declared Alex Otti as governor of Abia State,” he said.

  1. “I m not an Ngwa man but Abians should tread with caution on this Otti and Ikpeazu issue. Ikpeazu might have come through T A Orji but it is crystal clear and glaring that he fell out with him even before the Swearing-In. All the people shouting Otti! Otti! Otti! should take it easy because you don’t know him inside-out,you only side him because of his lofty promises and his track records as MD of Diamond Bank, you don’t know if that position helped T A Orji and his cohorts siphon state resources overseas. Alex Otti was the initial person T A Orji brought out for Abians to support, along the way,his power-hungry son(Ikuku) brought out Okezie Ikpeazu for the dad forcing him to abandon Otti who decamped to APGA. Otti might be the best man but that should never make Abians swallow every hook line and sinker offered by him. Okorocha started like this but today he is the worst nightmare of Imo People. And for those shouting for change in the party governing Abia State,Buhari’s CHANJI should be a proper case-study. Thank You All!”

    • I supports otti though i didnt vote cos of my political neutrality bt i like ur reasoning…ure on point, very correct.i was in owerri wen rochas won d incunbent ohakim..u dare nt talk against rochas then @owerri bt today his there worst nightmare like u said.i never supported okezie bt after observing his work…i nw support him..quite a pitty things turns out this way

  2. ABIA PEOPLE! I JUST DEY LOOK UNA.

WHEN SEN ENYINNAYA ABARIBE CAME….YOU PEOPLE SAID IT’S ORJI KALU THAT YOU WANT…YOU PEOPLE SEN ABARIBE BECOS HE CAME FROM NGWA. O.U.K FINALLY CAME & GAVE YOU WHAT YOU WANTED.

AGAIN…WHEN REGAN UFOMBA CAME…..YOU POEPLE SAID NO..BECOS HE CAME FROM NGWA..THAT IT’S T.A ORJI YOU WANT….HE CAME & DEALTH WITH YOU PEOPLE VERY WELL.

NOW YOU PEOPLE HAVE COME AGAIN…. OVI IS HERE NOW ON A RESCUE MISSION…BUT YOU PEOPLE ARE SAYING NO THAT IT’S OTTI THAT YOU WANT.

“My people! My people!! Can some one tell me who is being FOOLISH here.

    I rest my case.

    • Ewu Zombie. You don’t even know what you are saying.
Go back to Abia electoral history. Reagan Ufomba was the man for Abians.
He sold our mandate out over a peanut. That is the kind of brain you people have.
You are the one very foolish here.

  3. I’m not a politician neither do I have an atom of interest in politics……….. But, what I have come to learn in this whole ordeal is pure undiluted, baised hatred for the Ngwa race. Even a Nigerian who is not from Abia state has made a point of duty for no just reasonable cause to hate an Ngwa Man. I ask WHY???? Even when they saw that Okezie is working……. and that an Ngwa Man by nature is the most accommodating Nigerian.. …….. I just can’t go any further!!!!

    • Shut up your mouth. Election is not by sentiment, it is by victory. Next time you want an Ngwa man a governor do a better home work. Abians were inclined to vote for Ngwa man this time that’s why they voted Oti. But in your foolishness you denied him despite how powerful, sellable and the integrity he commands.
With due respect to eminent disciplined, wise and respected Ngwa men like my maternal uncle who appreciate the truth.

    • You are just being emotional. PDP was massively rejected in the election. Ikpeazu lost massively and should quit. The hasty and poorly executed roads at Aba was just a smokescreen and you should known better.Nobody hates Ngwa people what we want is the best for Abia.

    • If people hated Ngwa , they would have avoided us entirely. Offcourse the love for Ngwa made Aba what it is today- Aba was made by non- Ngwa people. So, we must not be sentimental about who won the election. It glaringly clean and clear that the mandate of Abians was given to APGA

    • There is no difference between an Ngwa man and a non Ngwa man in the politics of Abia State.
      T. A orji and some very greedy Ngwa politicians denied Okezie the seat. I pray a credible candidate will come from Ngwa in 2023 and everyone will see how he will grace victory.
      Yes! I mean 2023.

    • Did he rig the election or not??? Is it called democracy or ngwacracy???, whether he is working or not, it’s a stolen mandate and Abians don’t want a thief to rule them, nobody hates Ngwa people, we only hate Pdp and Ndi ohi vote. Alex Otti is the man for the people

    • You are biased already because you are looking in the angle of you coming from Ngwa, this is court rule and we need a competent hand to change Abia. Do not be tribalism my friend, say no to God father ism and bad governance,PDP has failed woefully in the past 16 years, what can you say about it?
