AROCHUKWU CONSTITUENCY RERUN: UKOHA REMAINS THE MAN WHOM THE CAP FITS
Following the legal tussles which took the center stage ever since the just concluded general election at both the States and the Federal level, it is now evidence that it is not yet over until it is over.
In Arochukwu State Constituency of Abia State, the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, in a petition brought before it by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Prince Eric Aso Kalu who seek to have the said election cancelled, had on the 13th of September 2019, ordered for a re-run within 90 days in about 10 polling units in the area.
According to the panel, the units where the re-run will take place include about 3 units in Ututu ward, 6 units in Arochukwu ward 1 and a unit in Ohaeke ward in Abam community.
The panel cited among other things, over voting, sharp practices and non compliance with the electoral guidelines in the conduct of the election among others.
However, dissatisfied with the verdict of the lower court, the Member representing Arochukwu State Constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha approached the Appeal Court to seek for redress, but be it as it may, the Appeal court sitting in Owerri, on Monday the 11th of November 2019, dismissed the appeal and concurred with the ruling of the Tribunal.
As things are now, it is glaring that the re-run of the said election is scheduled for Saturday 25th of January, 2020 by the INEC.
This is where the issue of credibility and integrity comes in.
It is often said that seeing is believing, indeed, any right thinking individual will readily agree with this writer that within the space of six months since the Minority Whip, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha took his seat on the floor of the House, he has not for one day left anyone in doubt as to what his duties are.
Hon. Ukoha has been working assiduously and seriously ever since to ensure that the people of his constituency are alive to their responsibilities as he believes in collaborative efforts in achieving laudable projects, and that he has since embarked upon.
Immediately he assumed his seat as the people’s lawmaker, Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha took the bull by the horns in addressing the many challenges bedeviling his people.
He quickly mobilized and sought the attention and presence of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and that of State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to the plights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) of Isu community in Arochukwu L G A over their boundary issues with their neighboring Ukwa and Utuma clans of Biase L G A in Cross-River State.
As at today, relief materials have been provided to Isu people by both the State government and NEMA courtesy of Hon. Ukoha.
He did not stop at that. The Minority Whip has attracted an ongoing 4-Classroom Block at Aggrey Primary School Ibom, Arochukwu, for a conducive learning environment of the pupil. Such will soon be replicated across the rest of the clans that make up the constituency.
He has also influenced a water bore-hole to Okpo Ihechiowa in collaboration with Abia CSDP and the World Bank, and plans are on the way to empower Women/Youths of Arochukwu Constituency with little capital to help them engage in one form of business or the other, while others have been gainfully engaged into various skills acquisition programs so that they can be self reliance in future.
Hon. Ukoha recently toured round the five clans that make up the constituency on a Town Hall Meeting, so as to know the major challenge the people are facing as well as seek for solutions to it. So far, he is satisfied with the responses he has gotten, while advising his constituents to relax as he will fully swing into action very soon.
The Minority Whip has really shown that he is a man of destiny wrapped with grace whose talk about his quality representation within the space of six months, has remained stapled on the lips of his constituents.
No doubt, with the able and stable way he has been piloting the affairs of Arochukwu State Constituency, his constituents should be rest assured that more dividends of democracy await them through their amiable lawmaker.
As the affected units in the constituency get ready to go back to the poll for the re-run, they must never loose sight of the fact that Hon. Dr. Mike Ukoha remains the man whom the cap fits, therefore, it is left for the people to repeat the feat again by voting massively for him so as to continue to attract qualitative constituency projects to them.
Whom the cap fits let him wear.
