A second republic lawmaker, Godfrey Obiefula Onyemaobi on Monday urged Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra(MASSOB) to jettison their agitation and abide by the decision of the south east leaders on the call for Nigeria restructuring.
Recalled that South-east leaders including Governors, members of the National Assembly and apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo rosed from a meeting in Enugu on Monday, disowned the call for succession and called for proper restructuring of the country.
Onyemaobi who gave the advice on Monday while lending his support to the stand of South-east leaders on the call for restructuring, commended leaders from the zone for taken a clear stance concerning the clamour by IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu for a sovereign state of Biafra.
According to the Abia state Chairman of APC Elders Council, in as much as the decision of the south east leaders came late, it has shown that Igbos were for a united Nigeria.
He called on the agitators to withdraw their demands to allow peace reign in the country, pointing out that restructuring remained the only panacea to the marginalization of south east zone.
His words,”Our leaders have done the right thing by making a clear stand that south east zone were for a united Nigeria”.
“All along I have been saying am in support of a restructured Nigeria with 1963 Republican constitution as a building block.What leaders from south east zone had done, is a confirmation of that stance taken by me and other people”.
“I thank them for that. But although the decision was late in coming. The decision should have been taken before this time.
“To our sons and brothers who are agitating for Biafra, I appeal to them sheathe their swords. I believe that our leaders cannot mislead us in this quest. Am advising the agitators to withdraw their demands and allow elders to handle the situation, because we cannot have two captains in a one boat”.
“They should allow peace reign in this country. We should be talking about how to bring food on our table for everybody, not talking about things that will lead to war.
The APC chieftain called on Federal government to look into the 2014 national conference report and implement the ones that will address some of the teething problem bedevilling the country.
