DEMOLITION IN UMUAHIA: CAUTION YOUR BOYS, UKANDU WARNS COSMOS NDUKWE
A former Abia State House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency in the 2019 general election, Hon. Chika Ukandu has totally condemned the recent demolition of a section of her father’s building which is located at No 40 Kaduna Street Umuahia by the government, saying that what the government did is unacceptable.
Speaking with AFNews reporters who were on ground to assess the level of demolition on the fence ,Hon. Ukandu who contested on the platform of Social Democratic Party, explained that she normally stay at the building when ever she returns from Canada where she based, stressing that she heard a knock on the wall at about 5pm yesterday (Wednesday 9th January, 2020), and came out to asked and was told by the boys that came for the demolition exercise that they were sent by the Commissioner for Commerce & Trade Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe to demolish the fencing.
She explained that she does not know why they embarked on the exercise since the building is not a market, adding that just as she tried to resist their actions, one of the boys flogged her and started calling her a prostitute, stressing that such made her to invite the Police into the matter.
According to her, she said that she supports the efforts of the State government to clean up Umuahia, pointing out that it was due to her passion and love for a clean City that made her to come down to contest election, questioning why the government should embark on such exercise as both the building and its fencing does not pose any threat to the city.
She further stated that she has never met Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe and has never have personal issue with him, wondering why such directive should come from the Commissioner.
Hon. Ukandu however call on the Commissioner to caution his boys so as not to use his name to create disaffection and hatred with people, while maintaining that the boys are out to tarnish both the image of the government and that of the Commissioner.
