One Pastor Prosper Akachukwu has been arrested for killing one Pastor Blessed Iwuanyanwu and two of his church members.
Akachukwu has confessed to the crime.
A combined team of Police operatives from the Abia State Police Command and the zone 9 Police headhunters in Umuahia tracked down and arrested the suspect, alongside three others.
The suspect who said he hails from Mbaise in Imo state, said Iwuanyanwu who also hails from Mbano in the same state, was his childhood friend, adding that they both schooled in the same secondary and started ministering together as gospel preachers.
He said he killed Iwuanyanwu for allegedly abandoning him after helping him to grow his church through diabolic means.
“Iwuanyanwu was my childhood friend and we were also co-pastors. When he was having challenges in growing his church I took him a native a doctor in Ondo state to get charms to attract members to his church and also perform miracles for them. I also gave him One hundred thousand to support him during the trip.
“We started the process in the year 2013 and we been going to the shrine to renew the charm every year since that year. But when the charm started working and Iwuanyanwu started making money he forgot him.
“Whenever I call him for financial assistance he would tell me not to disturb him, which was why I decided to attack and collect some of personal belongings”, he said.
Akachukwu who is now regretting his actions further added that he hired three assailants from Aba to help him execute his plans.
“I hired three boys from Aba to attack the pastor. We trailed him to his house when he was going home and laid ambushed around his house, waiting to attack him at midnight.
“I was outside when the boys started the operation. They invited me in when they were through with the operation and I entered and found out that they have killed Iwuanyanwu and the two other people in the house’’, he said.
Speaking shortly while parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Anthony Ogbizi disclosed that Police operatives, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID in the state, Patrick Edung, had on Saturday October 20, 2018 uncovered the decomposing bodies of Iwuanyanwu, his assistance pastor, Ambassador Ikeagu kalu , and the women leader of his church, Pastor Ruth Andrews.
The deceased were pastors at the wind of Glory International Church, Ohokobe village within Umuahaia the state capital.
In statement made available to newsmen today (Tuesday), Ogbizi stated that one Sweeney Andrew had reported the sudden disappearance of one deceased (Ruth) who is her mother at the zone 9 headquarters on October 16, 2018.
The statement added the complainant had alleged that Pastor Iwuanyanwu came to their residence at Ehimiri Housing Estate, Umuahia on October 12, 2018 together with her mother and shortly left with her in his Infinity Sport Utility Vehicles with registration RSH 583 HZ for an unknown place.
The complainant further added that when her mother did not come back as expected, she called her two mobile number but they were unreachable.
Last she said, she was called and told that her mother (Ruth) had been murdered alongside Pastor Iwuanyanwu and the assistant Pastor;
The, she said prompted Police operatives from the zone to commence investigation into the matter.
Ogbizi however said the combined team of Police operatives from the zone and state command acting on a tip up traced Iwuanyanwu’s car to Ohia mechanic village where the suspect took it to a mechanic for repairs and arrested one Chubuike Peter who was working on the SUV car.
According to the CP, while Peter was in Police custody at Umuokpara police station, Akachukwu traced him to the station to take him on bail to complete the repairs on the stolen car and he was consequently arrested by the police.
The Police boss also added that other accomplices to the crime Ikechukwu Nnadi and Fidelis Akubuokwu were also arrested in connection with the murder case.
Answering questions from newsmen, the wife of Pastor Akachukwu who was arrested with him claimed she did not know that her husband was into any diabolical business.
Unconfirmed source pointed out that the woman was arrested alongside her husband as some of the deceased items were found on her.
Other items recovered from the suspects include three gold plated wrist watches, seven ATM cards of different banks, three plasma television sets, shoes and cloth of different kinds.
