The member who represents Aba North and Aba South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Prestige Ossy, has emphasized the importance for Nigerians to work hard to promote democracy and good governance. He also urged political elite to be mindful regarding Nigeria’s future and begged politicians to stop heating up the polity for personal gains. Hon. Ossy stated this in his special message to celebrate the nation’s 59th Independence anniversary.
The lawmaker lamented the gap between the political leaders and the people, even at this time that the nation ought to celebrate landmark achievements. He insisted that many Nigerians were uncertain about how the quality of their life had changed within the period of democratic governance, aimed at establishing and strengthening the people’s involvement in the political process.
Ossy also identified the increasing level of youth unemployment as one of Nigeria’s major problems causing violence. He blamed politicians for playing up the ethnic and religious differences for personal advantages, adding that such attitude was dangerous as it could result in the country’s division. He therefore, called for unity and peaceful co-existence, which according to him, were the major cores of nation prosperity, even as he thanked God for preserving the nation despite the numerous challenges that had been rocking the country in the recent years.
