PHOTOS (2019): A ENOUGH IS A ENOUGH, WE MUST STOP THE ROT IN ABIA STATE – ALEX OTTI FIRES
The governorship candidate of all Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA in Abia,Dr. Alex Otti OFR last Sunday flagged off his guber campaign at the mater die Catholic Church, Umuahia with a call for prayers from Christian faithful in the state.
During the church service, Dr. Otti had stated that he was in the church to flag off his campaign and to “seek the face of God”, adding that power belongs to God, expressing his respect for the church and God, assuring the church which was celebrating its “Project Sunday” that he will partner with them and the church in all they are doing.
Speaking with newsmen later, Dr. Otti described the state as rotten, adding “enough is enough”.
The APGA guber candidate said “Co-incidental that governorship campaign is being flagged off on a Sunday and I am not just a Sabbatherian, I am a Christian and as a Christian, I can worship anywhere. Today, I chose to worship in the Catholic Church, even as my wife is a catholic. So it is in keeping with tradition of listening to our wives that I came to the Catholic Church.
According to him, “I have released the first copies of my manifesto in the church today. We came prepared. We want to develop the state. We want to stop the rot. The theme of our campaign is “Enough is enough”. We have gone through a lot of rot in this state and it is the time to bring the change and liberate our people, and we must do it this time around. Every hand must be on deck because we cannot like this. We are the worst state in Nigeria. There is nothing to show for it. You breath foul air all over the place, the roads are not made and we have money. It is not about money, it is about money being used for the purpose it was intended. So my message to Abia people is that we must all rise up and bring this change and say, “enough is enough”.
“If you have followed how elections have happened in the last couple of years, you will know that the process of writing results cannot happen anymore. So the issue of securing votes, is also a collective responsibility. First of all, people are wiser now. Secondly, what happened in 2015 cannot happen again. Thirdly, they used impunity at that time because they were at the centre that time. Thank God they are not at the centre today. So, I believe that it will not happen and that the votes will be protected and will do everything possible to ensure that the results from the polling units are the results to be declared”.
Dr. Otti allayed the fear of superiority of PDP, stating “I am not afraid and cannot be. Our party not being at the centre does not matter. Our party wasn’t at the centre when we won in Anambra state. Our party was not at the centre when a couple of other parties won. So, what I believe is that with the process that has improved and with every other bodies eyes shining now, I believe that the same thing that happened in 2015 won’t happen again”.
To the electorates he urged “They should be vigilant, should not be docile, but should all come out and vote and should stand there to ensure that the results are there because, at the end of the day, they should be the ultimate beneficiaries of our government. The governments that we have had in the past are for godfathers and godsons. We are coming for a government that will be for the people. So the people should come out en mass, vote for us and ensure that the votes are received.
In his response, the officiating Priest, Rev. Fr. David Aguneri urged Otti and other politicians innthe state to play politics without bitterness.
