It was my first time going to the station.

Upon driving in, I was confronted with a bush environment.

I quickly turned to my partner, Mike Akpara, if the lead convoy has not made a mistake. Ambrose, who has been there before assuaged my fears that he has been there before. Moving further, fresh fear shook me, but I took solace that our security apparatus was heavily fortified and capable of repelling wanton attacks.

When we finally reached, alighted, we were greeted with happy souls; for them, Daniel has come to judgment. They were all full of smiles. They could not hide it as bouts of joy rented the air.

Leading our team was the enigma himself, Dr. Alex Otti, flanked with Dr. Max Nduaguibe.

With open hands, the staff and management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) anchored by the Acting General Manager, Mr. Uche Njoku ably assisted by Engineer Abraham Kadung, Manager, Engineering and the entire members of the station present were all beaming with smiles.

Immediately after the exchange of banters, facility tour station commenced. We went to the Transmitter room, the Studio room and the Generator arena. What we saw is better imagined than explained.

The Biblical Noah would not have accepted to touch the kind of transmitter that we saw at the station. NTA 21, Umuahia is literally dead. Even the environment will tell a better story as weeds, are competing for space.

It is instructive that the management of the station had earlier made a distress call to the Frontline Investment banker, Dr. Otti for financial assistance, which based on tradition, he quickly obliged.

Speaking, ‘Ojikeyaeme’, Dr. Alex Otti expressed deep concern and promised that he will not only help to bring the station back to live, but he will bring his friends to make sure that the station competes with other stations in the country.

He regretted the obsolete facilities at the station, adding that in the couple of months to come, NTA Channel 21, Umuahia will be the talk of the town. He frowned when he was told that only one gen set is operational but can a TV station operate with just one generator,’ he queried.’

Hear him, “from what I have seen here, this station requires calibration and I am here to assist, and not just promises. I have grown beyond rhetoric’s. Despite that fact that you have already given us the amount you need to come back to live, but what I saw here, you really need more than that. That amount you told us, we have it here. But we will go beyond that. NTA Channel 21, needs money. Abia is our state and we should do everything within our powers to build Abia. In that case, I will come again. I will also bring my friends to come here. I know them. They will definitely assist in making sure that this station becomes a reference point in Nigeria”, he promised.

When told that Abians were losing employment opportunities because the station was not working and has not been fully operational for the past five years, Dr. Otti pleaded for more time to enable him to meet with his friends.

“Talk is cheap. Just give me some time and the rest will be history. We can’t sit idly and watch job opportunities to be wasted on the altar of negligence. If our sons and daughters are not employed because we have refused to help, we have failed them. We will no longer allow it to continue. By the Grace of God, the fortunes of NTA Channel 21 have metamorphosed for good in Jesus Name”, he prayed.

Dr. Otti, however, fulfilled his promise and also puts smiles on the faces of the staff and management of the station by showering them with some gifts.

He also commended the members of staff of the station for keeping the faith all this while.

“I must commend you. You are a rare breed. Coming here every day shows unalloyed commitment. Looking at your faces, I see hope, hence, putting money here would not be a waste.

Addressing his guests earlier, the visibly elated Acting General Manager, Uche Njoku painted an ugly picture of the situation. He stated that the station has been off the air for the past five years, adding that the station has struggled to remain afloat by using their personal funds to run the outfit.

According to him, “It has not been easy here. We are just here to make sure that Abia does not lose out in Federal presence. We don’t receive subventions. This station is meant to be assisted by the indigenes of the state until it finds its feet. We run here with our funds and vehicles. But, how long can we do this? Without a ‘doubt, we need help. Sir, we are happy that you are here and I know that today marks a new beginning for the NTA Channel 21”, he stated.

He expressed displeasure regarding the loss of employment opportunities that the state has missed because the station is not operational.

According to him, it was to curtail these employment losses that we ran to Dr. Alex Otti and we are happy that he came here in person.

Sir, we thank you.

In his vote of thanks, the Manager, Engineering, Abraham Kadung could not hide his excitement. He thanked their guests, especially Dr. Alex Otti for finding time to visit and responding swiftly to the immediate needs of the station.

Sir, we are happy. I was primarily sent here to make sure that this station bounces back to life.

For me, you’re coming here today is a prayer answered. I can only pray that from the Source from where you blessed us with will not dry in Jesus Name.

Meanwhile, the highly enthusiastic staffs were busy chanting prayers for Dr. Alex Otti and his people.

Some of the people that accompanied Dr. Otti on the visit included, the DG Alex Otti campaign organization, Dr. Max Nduaguibe, the BOT Chairman Abia First, Hon. Nnanna Ngwu, a BOT member of Abia First and a chieftain of APGA, Mr. Mike Akpara Akpara, Abia First state coordinator, Hon. Ishmael Onuoha, a member of Alex Otti’s Media team, Peter Okoro, Mr. Paddy Anyatonwu, Media Aide to Dr. Alex Otti, Abaha Ibeku, Oj and some other passionate Otti loyalists.
