There has been widespread condemnation trailing the demeaning statement credited to Mr. Enyinnaya Apollos, the Chief Press Secretary to Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.

Apollos had while celebrating government’s clearing of heaps of refuse that had decorated different parts of Ahia Ohuru-Ngwa Road in Aba for several months, described Aba Traders as” Dirty People”.

Many Abians, especially those on social media have continued to take a swipe at Mr. Apollos for his statement which many consider; unwarranted and disrespectful.

I cannot agree less with those who hold these views, because Mr. Apollos, by his position spoke the mind of the governor; a governor who ordinarily should be the servant of the people. However, I think those who expected Mr. Apollos to show restraint and civility in his utterances, are those who may not have been following the activities of the Ikpeazu led government very religiously.

A government that would demolish validly built properties belonging to its citizens without notice and without compensation is not the kind of government anyone should expect to speak responsibly, especially when speaking through an unguarded CPS who has embraced the weapon of petty and destructive propaganda with the passion of a brainwashed jihadist.

A government that has received billions in revenues, and yet refuses to execute the most elementary task of governance; which is payment of workers salaries shouldn’t have qualms dishing out verbal insults against her victims.

A government that would have the audacity to impersonate a notable construction company, by hiring its equipment and giving people the false impression that such a company is executing a particular project, only to turn back and use a mushroom construction company that belongs to his Blood-Tonic-loving godfather/godson to execute a substandard project, like was done at Faulk road in Aba, shouldn’t be expected to become honorable overnight. So calling Aba traders dirty people is in tandem with the slave master mentality of the Okezie Ikpeazu led government.

But before some uninformed persons erroneously accept this tag of “Dirty People” given to Aba traders by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu through his Chief Press Secretary, Enyinnaya Pollos, let’s briefly look at the place that originated the controversy.

The Ngwa Road New Market (Popularly known as Abia Ohuru) is the second biggest market in Aba, after Ariria International MMarket.

In a bid to patronize and uphold the relationship that existed between previous governments and her sycophants and election rigging thugs, the Ikpeazu led government on assumption of office consolidated the nuisance and impunity reigning there by ensuring that the entire main road of Ngwa road-Ahia Ohuru, starting from Ngwa road by Mosque up to Ngwa road by Ibere was completely taken over by government agents who converted it to an emergency market.
While the government through her agents simile to the bank as millions of naira are generated on a daily basis, motorists and pedestrians suffer untold hardship, roads decay massively and hips of refuse take over the entire area; with the attendant health hazard. A visit to this place would convince any doubting Thomas that there’s no government in Abia.

As at this moment, almost all the houses and shops in Aba and Umuahia have paid their annual ASEPA levy, yet, ASEPA refuse collectors are not found anywhere, because the Ikpeazu led government, just like his godfather predecessor sells off different zones to his incompetent cronies at the beginning of every year, who turn back to extort residents without commensurate service.

How did Aba traders become dirty when Ikpeazu and his men are in charge? Who allows and runs these illegal markets that produce the dirts Ikpeazu pretends to detest? Who receives the returns from the red eyed thugs that move with rage and extort with violence? Whose duty it is to clear the heapss of refuse that make life miserable for Abians?

The fact that a Chief Press Secretary to the governor would celebrate the removal of some heaps of refuse caused by Ikpeazu himself, shows how pedestrian the Ikpeazu led government is. It’s also an indirect admittance by Mr. Apollos, that indeed, the Ikpeazu led government has failed Abians and thus, must be collectively bundled out.

For those who are angry with Mr.Enyinnaya Apollos and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu over the description of Aba traders as dirty, please forgive them, and don’t forget that Ikpeazu was said to have been lifted from a refuse dump and made a governor, so let’sremind him and his CPS that those inocent Aba traders they are unjustly lambasting, are merely emulating the footsteps of their governor who has shown him self a good role mode in making our environment dirty.
